Filling the streets with colorful costumes and exuberant celebrations, spreading happiness, joy and togetherness throughout the nation, Trinidad and Tobago Carnival earned its reputation as ‘The Greatest Show On Earth.’ It is an electrifying annual festival held on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday and is well known all over the world.
There are many events leading up to this much anticipated Monday and Tuesday Carnival celebrations some of which include multiple all inclusive Chutney/Soca parties or fetes, panyard limes and various competitions held throughout the country leading up to it.
It is an energy packed event where people come from all over the world, to witness, to part-take and to enjoy a combination of culture, food, music, sweet steelpan, creativity, hospitality and good vibes.
The actual Carnival celebration starts early Monday morning before dawn with J’ouvert, which kicks off the festivities. Participants cover themselves with paint, mud and powder flooding the steets behind massive music trucks dancing to the infectious rhythms of Calypso and Soca music.
After J’ouvert, all day Monday and Tuesday there is ‘Parade of the Bands,’ where thousands of masqueraders flood the streets displaying their magnificent, dazzling costumes usually depicting various themes, crossing the stage, pulsating to the rhythms of the music being played. This is where mas bands compete for prizes and bragging rights, it is however, the climax of Carnival.

National Calypso Monarch – Helen Francis with his song ‘To Whom It May Be’
King of Carnival – Curtis Eustace with his portrayal of ‘D’ Spirit of the Gasparee Cave
Queen of Carnival – Roxanne Omalo’s with her portrayal of Sirena – Mistress of the Seas
Ultimate Soca Champion – Blaka Dan with his song ‘Blessing’
Chutney Soca Monarch – Machel Montano with ‘Pepper Vine’ performing alongside Drupatee and Lady Lava
Panorama – Republic Bank Exodus
Road March – Machel Montano with ‘Pardy’ (to be announced)
