Ishan Kishan’s unbeaten 94 off 48 balls helped Sunrisers Hyderabad defeat Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their penultimate game of the Indian Premier League.
Kishan smacked 5 sixes and 7 fours as Hyderabad scored a huge 231-6.
In reply, Bengaluru were bowled out for 189 in 19.5 overs, a defeat that will harm their chances of finishing in the top two of the table.
While the team has already qualified for the knockouts and is third on the table with a game in hand, Bengaluru’s top-two finish depends on Punjab Kings’ final two results.
Choosing to bowl, Bengaluru gave Hyderabad’s openers a quick start. Abhishek Sharma scored 34 off 17 balls and 54 off 24 balls with Travis Head.
Hyderabad was at 54-2 in 4.2 overs as both openers were dismissed in the space of three deliveries.
Kishan came to the crease and took charge, smacking 50 off 28 with 4 fours and 2 sixes. He added 3 more sixes and 3 fours.
Cameos from Heinrich Klaasen (24 off 13) and Aniket Verma (26 off 9 also helped Hyderabad past 200, including 43 off the last three overs.
In reply, Bengaluru started well. Phil Salt scored 63 off 32 balls and 80 off 43 balls with Virat Kohli.
Kohli scored 43 off 25 with 7 fours and a six.
Salt reached 50 off 27, inclusive of 5 sixes and 4 fours. The openers put Bengaluru’s chase on track, but Kohli was dismissed in the seventh over.
Mayank Agarwal was out for 11 and Rajat Patidar for 18. Jitesh Sharma made 24 off 15, sharing 44 off 26 with Patidar, but couldn’t hold the momentum.
Bengaluru lost seven wickets for 16 runs across 25 balls.
