Brooklyn Council Member Farah N. Louis will host Juneteenth Holiday, June 19, Juneteenth Annual Central Brooklyn Celebration & Teen Entrepreneur Expo at Brooklyn Public Library, 10 Grand Army Plaza, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.

“Come celebrate Juneteenth with performances by Phresher and other organizations,” Louis, the daughter of Haitian and Bahamian immigrants, who represents the 45th Council District in Brooklyn, told Caribbean Life on Tuesday.

“Enjoy youth entrepreneurship showcases, educational activities, and vibrant cultural programming on the steps of the Brooklyn Public Library,” she added.

Louis said she was “honored to join in the observance of Juneteenth, a day representing our historic struggle and collective progress.

“Our annual recognition of the ending of slavery is proof of the advances we have made in the importance of our emancipation,” she said. “Our ancestors blazed a path to freedom, and it is our responsibility to carry that torch forward by engaging our young people in this history.

“Juneteenth not only commemorates our history but also strengthens our understanding of our culture, and I am privileged to have the opportunity to enable future generations to resist repression and work towards vital progress in our own communities,” Louis continued.
