Lauren Singramdoo, a high school senior at St. Francis Preparatory School in Brooklyn, comes from a family with roots in Guyana, a small country in South America.
She resides in Queens Village and speaks fondly of her neighborhood. “I absolutely love my neighborhood because of its diverse and vibrant community,” she said. “All of our neighbors, from the elderly to children, interact with one another,” she added.
Something about her that might shock others is that she’s been a competitive dancer for over a decade and will continue dancing in college.
She sees her parents as the most significant influence on the path she has chosen today because they both have shown me what hard work, resilience, determination, and dedication can take you. Not only have they been supportive, but they have also been the best role models for my siblings and me to look up to,” she added.
Singramdoo is involved with Campus Ministry and actively participates in school activities such as the SFP Dance Team, which engages in various activities and events around the area. She’s also active in club life, holding the position of West Indian Club President.
She has been involved with the school community since her freshman year, and she says the reaction from her friends and teachers is beyond what she can express with words.
“The joy and excitement while participating in acts of kindness. As well as showing up for our fellow students and peers is nothing but fun. I will, without doubt, continue participating in community life in the future,” she continued.
Dancing makes her heart sing. She states, “Dance has taught me countless things about life. It is my passion and will forever be my first love.”
Next, Singramdoo will attend Molloy University, where she will major in Nursing and dance for the school’s Division 2 dance team.
