Gibson hosts grand finale of Bronx Week 2025 Parade, concert, and food festival

On Saturday, May 17, Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson and The Bronx Tourism Council co-hosted the 2025 Bronx Walk of Fame Induction Ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at Bronx Borough Hall: later that evening, The Bronx Ball at 6 p.m.

Gibson, whose father hails from Trinidad and Tobago, said the event celebrated the 2025 Bronx Walk of Fame inductees: Kemba Walker, a professional basketball coach and former player; Damian Priest, a professional wrestler; Judy Torres, a freestyle music icon and dance-pop singer; and Devon Rodriguez, an artist.

For the third consecutive year of introducing the People’s Choice Award, Gary Axelbank won the Media and the Arts award.

Gibson said the Bronx Walk of Fame has celebrated Bronx natives for their work and contributions to their respective industries since its founding in 1997.

As of this year, she said over 125 individuals have been recognized along the 23-block stretch of the Grand Concourse. Inductees are honored with street signs from 138th Street to 165th Street.

The program began in the Rotunda of Bronx Borough Hall and then transitioned outside for the unveiling of the 2025 Bronx Walk of Fame inductees. Emmy Award-winning WABC 7 reporter Pedro Rivera emceed the ceremony.

Gibson and The Bronx Tourism Council co-hosted the Annual Bronx Ballthe Bronx’s version of the Met Gala — which was emceed by Emmy Award-winning WPIX reporter and anchor Monica Morales. It took place at 6:00 p.m. at 1720 Eastchester Road.

Gibson said this celebrated event honored “the borough’s cultural vibrancy and spotlighted the newest inductees into the prestigious Bronx Walk of Fame.”

“The Bronx Ball was the Bronx’s version of the Met Gala and was our way of celebrating the people who make our borough great,” she said.

“From the artists and activists to the entrepreneurs and everyday heroes, this event shined a spotlight on the individuals whose contributions continue to shape our community,” she added. “Thank you to all the sponsors and everyone who helped make this Bronx Week the best yet.”

A highlight of the evening included the presentation of the Key to the Borough to legendary DJ and record producer D-Nice, recognizing his outstanding contributions to music and the Bronx community.

Additionally, Gibson said two Tourism Awards were presented to the New York Yankees and the Bronx Music Heritage Center for their exceptional impact on promoting Bronx culture and tourism.
