The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) recently honoured the recipients of the 2024 Caribbean Media Awards at a luncheon event held at the InterContinental New York Times Square during Caribbean Week.
The Caribbean Media Awards competition recognizes journalists and media professionals whose work conveys and presents news and information pertinent to the region’s tourism industry and captures the distinctive essence of the Caribbean story. This competition celebrates excellence in journalism, photography, and digital content that highlights the diverse and vibrant cultures, landscapes, and experiences available throughout the Caribbean region.
“The 2024 Caribbean Media Awards have received submissions from some of the most talented and promising journalists and influencers covering the region, which is incredibly rewarding after a five-year hiatus.” According to Kenneth Bryan, Minister of Tourism and Ports of the Cayman Islands and Chairman of the Cayman Islands Tourism Organization (CTO), the calibre of the submitted work is highly indicative of the future of media coverage for our most critical industry.
A panel of judges evaluated entries submitted by public relations agencies, CTO member countries, and the media community using various criteria, such as content, structure and form, title, quality of language, and originality, to determine the victors. Entries must have been published or broadcast in 2023 to be eligible for consideration.
The judging panel acknowledged the exceptional quality of the research and reporting in the published works, as well as the impressive scope and depth of the subjects covered, in their announcement of their decisions.
“The CTO is honored to recognize these exceptional professionals who have devoted their abilities to showcasing the Caribbean’s beauty and allure.” Dona Regis-Prosper, Secretary-General of the Caribbean Tourism Organization, expressed her gratitude and congratulations to all storytellers whose work was reviewed on behalf of the judging panel and our member countries.
She also expressed her gratitude to the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism for its sponsorship and invaluable assistance in reviving the media awards event.
