Brooklyn’s Meyer Levin School for the Performing Arts held one of its signature annual events Oct. 29, combining a full-scale student performance of “Thriller Illusions” with the Elementary Fall Carnival to celebrate student talent and provide a festive Halloween experience for the Brooklyn community.
Meyer Levin School of the Performing Arts, located on Ralph Avenue, is a middle school for grades 6-8.
The school said the event celebrated student talent and brought a “festive, professional-quality Halloween experience to the Brooklyn community.”

The day’s highlight was the student-led production of “Thriller Illusions,” a full-scale, choreographed reenactment of the music and iconic moves from Michael Jackson’s Thriller, the best-selling album of all time worldwide.
The school said the show, which began at 10:30 a.m. in the Meyer Levin Theater, featured students “who spent months honing their dance, acting, and stagecraft skills under the direction of Ms. Maxwell, Ms. Rodriguez, Mr. Brathwaite, Mr. Russo, Mr. James, and Mr. Thompson.”
“The energy in the theater was electric. This show is a demonstration of the dedication and high-level talent our students possess,” said Principal J. Hendrickson. “As one of our biggest annual events, ‘Thriller Illusions’ allows our students to connect with a cultural landmark and showcase the future of performing arts in Brooklyn.”

Immediately following the show, the school announced that the Elementary Fall Carnival would kick off at 11:30 a.m., drawing several participants, including Meyer Levin students and the local community.
Meyer Levin School of the Performing Arts said the carnival offered “safe, festive activities,” including Trunk & Treat, Bouncy Houses, Popcorn, Cotton Candy, and an Obstacle Course.
“The successful dual event underscores Meyer Levin School’s mission to provide exceptional performing arts education alongside positive community engagement,” Hendrickson said.
“The event served as a perfect send-off into the Halloween weekend,” it added.
