Trinidad and Tobago’s Women’s Cricketers got off to a great start in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) 2025 Women’s T20 Blaze tournament when they defeated Barbados by 36 runs at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, St. Vincent, recently.
Barbados leg-spinner Keila Elliott ended with splendid figures of five for 17 from her 4 overs, but her team’s batting left a lot to be desired as T&T coasted to a comfortable win.
Sent in to bat, T&T made 114 for 7, thanks to Rachael Vincent, 50 off 54 balls, and veteran Britney Cooper’s 42 off 41 balls, in their 83-run stand for the second wicket as T&T lost opener Djenaba Joseph (two) in the second over.
With Cooper hitting 4 boundaries, Vincent struck 3 fours and 2 sixes in her innings. Cooper was dismissed by Elliott in the 16th over with T&T’s score at 91.
T&T ended its innings badly, with Barbados claiming 6 wickets for just 23 runs. Elliott was the star for Barbados as she took the scalps of Lee-Ann Kirby (one), Anisa Mohammed (four), Steffie Soogrim (duck), and Samara Ramnath (two) to claim her 5 wickets.
In reply, Barbados’ innings never got off the ground as they were bowled out for an inadequate 78 in the 18th over. Left-arm spinner Soogrim did most of the damage as she took 3 for 15, with Kirby grabbing 2 for 11. Barbados also had three run-outs in their innings.
