The Barbados Pelicans defeated the Jamaica Titans by three runs in the West Indies Breakout League in a contest that was decided off the very last ball of the match.
After they were sent in to bat at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, the Pelicans got up to 155 for 7 off their 20 overs.
The Titans were on track to overtake their target, but fell just four short, ending on 152 for 7 from their 20 overs.
The Pelicans record 2-2, while the Titans fell to 1-3.
Victory seemed near as the Titans required 28 runs from three overs with Jeavor Royal and Deethmar Anderson at the crease.
However, left-arm pacer Ramon Simmonds bowled a spectacular 18th over that added just one run, putting immense pressure on the Titans.
With 27 runs required off the final 12 balls, captain Nyeem Young got 11 runs of the penultimate over, leaving the Titans needing 16 runs off the final over bowled by Simmonds.
The Titans needed 8 runs from the last 2 deliveries, with Royal smacking Simmonds straight down for 4.
He then hit Simmonds’ full toss straight into the hands of Kadeem Alleyne as he tried to clear the boundary.
All six of the Pelicans’ bowlers claimed a wicket apiece.
Earlier, Shaqkere Parris and Kadeem Alleyne gave the Pelicans a good start following the dismissal of opener Shian Brathwaite for eight.
The pair put on a quick 58 runs to help the Pelicans recover, carrying them to 75 for 1 in the ninth over.
Alleyne was dismissed for 38 from 30 balls with four fours and two sixes, and then Parris for the top score of 41 from 22 balls, inclusive of 3 sixes and 2 fours, which caused the Pelicans to slump to 126 for 7 in the 19th over.
Joshua Bishop scored an unbeaten 25 from 11 balls and ended the Pelicans’ innings by smacking left-arm pacer Reon Edwards for 2 sixes and 2 fours in the final over, yielding 21 runs.
Jeavor Royal with 2-15, Michael Clarke with 2-23, and Andrew Rambaran with 2-26 were the pick of the bowlers for the Titans.
