Matthews outplays Henry in Mumbai Indians’ win over Warriorz

Hayley Matthews got the better of her West Indies teammate Chinelle Henry as the Mumbai Indians Women strolled to an eight-wicket victory over the UP Warriorz Women as the Women’s Premier League continued in India.

After winning the toss and opting to field at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Mumbai Indians restricted their opponents to 142 for 9 from their 20 overs.

Grace Harris top scored with 45 from 26 balls, and Dinesh Vrinda hit 33 from 30 balls. Henry made just seven.

Nat Sciver-Brunt took 3-18 from her 4 overs, while Sanskriti Gupta and Shabnim Ismail took 2 wickets.

Opener Matthews then scored 59 from 50 balls with seven fours and two sixes, while Sciver-Brunt hit an unbeaten 75 from 44 balls to propel the Mumbai Indians to 143 for two off 17 overs.

The two added 133 runs for the second wicket after opener Yastika Bhatia fell for a duck.

Henry went wicketless in her 4 overs while conceding 24 runs.

With the win, the Mumbai Indians reached the top with six points from four matches, while the loss dropped the Warriorz to fourth place on the table with four points.

Dottin’s Giants drop to last place following loss to Capitals

West Indies power hitter Deandra Dottin and her Gujarat Giants Women were beaten by Delhi Capitals Women by six wickets in the continuation of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Dottin made 26 from 24, while Bharti Fulmali hit an unbeaten 40 from 29 balls, as the Giants were restricted to 127 for 9 from their 20 overs after being sent into bat.

Marizanne Kapp, Shikha Pandey, and Annabel Sutherland took two wickets apiece for the Capitals.

Jess Jonassen then slammed an unbeaten 61 from just 32 balls, and Shafali Verma added 44 from 27 balls to guide the Capitals to 131 for 4 in 15.1 overs.

It was the Giants’ third loss in 4 games. With just two points in the five-team standings, they are in the bottom spot.

However, the win propelled the Capitals to the top of the table, where they had 3 wins from 5 matches and 6 points overall.
